Ecosystems don't get built by adding features. They get built by solving problems at every layer of a value chain and then making those solutions talk to each other. That's what we're building at Perroo.
Why "ecosystem" matters
The word gets overused. But in pet care, it has precise meaning. The experience of caring for a pet touches at least five distinct layers: health, grooming and aesthetics, nutrition and products, training and behavior, and boarding and travel. Today, each of these layers operates in near-total isolation.
A pet's veterinary records don't inform their groomer. A groomer's product knowledge doesn't flow to the pet parent shopping online. The boarding facility doesn't know what the vet prescribed last month.
This fragmentation is not just an inconvenience. It is a genuine risk to animal welfare and a massive source of inefficiency and cost for every participant.
The provider layer
We started at the provider layer because that's where the most acute operational pain exists. Providers — veterinarians, groomers, trainers, boarding facilities — are running complex service businesses with inadequate tools. Fixing that is foundational.
Our provider platform covers the full operational stack: appointments, services, inventory, sales and POS, team management, invoicing, and reporting. This isn't a collection of integrations — it's a unified system designed to work as a single coherent whole.
The commerce layer
Product commerce in pet care is fragmented between large online retailers, physical pet stores, and direct-from-vet recommendations that often go unfulfilled because the purchase path is disconnected.
Perroo's commerce layer connects provider recommendations to purchase capability — so when a vet recommends a specific food brand, the pet parent can purchase it without leaving the care experience. This closes a loop that today is entirely open.
The intelligence layer
As both the provider and commerce layers mature, they generate data. Appointment histories, product preferences, health events, seasonal patterns. This data, aggregated and analyzed with appropriate privacy controls, becomes the intelligence layer.
The intelligence layer serves providers with operational insights and serves pet parents with personalized recommendations. It makes the system smarter for everyone, over time.
The connection philosophy
Every layer connects to every other layer through well-defined interfaces. This is intentional. It means each layer can evolve independently without breaking the others. It means we can integrate with external partners — insurance, telehealth, lab networks — without rebuilding from scratch.
It means the ecosystem is designed to grow.
Where we are now
We're in the early stages of a long journey. The provider platform is live and serving a growing network. The commerce and intelligence layers are in active development, with clear roadmaps tied to customer needs rather than feature ambition.
Building an ecosystem takes years. But the foundation matters enormously. We've built ours to last.
